Review:

Okay... I'm sure some of you have noticed that this time around UGPulse has given you the review BEFORE the movie is actually out. Ha! Ha! We hope to do this more often. Not only were we able to sneak into the previews but sitting right in the front row(with still good view of the screen) we even managed to shake hands with Tyler Perry himself as he introduced his movie. Yeah... UGPulse was star struck but hopefully this type of thing will be something of the norm in the future and we won't be close to passing out every time Hollywood is at our doorstep.

The Movie? Loved it!! And No... not because Tyler Perry shook my hand... in fact read on. The movie was fun to watch from beginning end. Tyler Perry did a good job writing this. The comedy was great and cleverly intertwined with Sheila's sad situation. As much as you hate her husband and what he is doing to her you will find yourself also laughing at her. I found myself often laughing with guilt... and when I could not hold it in and let it out, the person next to me joined in and laughed at Sheila as well.

The acting... love to see great black acting. The acting was great. And you could tell that the cast were great friends as their characters were supposed to be. You could tell that some of the dialogue was natural and unrehearsed. When it came to this I think some characters pulled this off better than others. If the audience very much detects unrehearsed scenes sometimes its because there is some sort of misfit of scenery and script and I feel that there is a danger there.

All the characters executed their roles beautifully.

I loved Tasha Smith's character. Can't wait to see her in another movie. I don't think I have seen Janet be this dramatic before. I think this movie gave her a good chance to do some good acting plus the role suited her well. One always questions Janet Jackson being in a movie... but I must say she decides her roles pretty well. I don't think she has ever really butchered a role... Am I wrong?

One cannot talk about acting in this movie and not mention Jill Scott! Jill Scott will BLOW you away. I wonder if she qualifies for some type of Oscar... Another Jennifer Hudson repeat?

My favorite scene in the movie was one time when she was laughing, celebrating and crying at the same time. She did this so well that I think the stars around her started to REALLY cry with her... on film. Knowing that she has just gone through a divorce... it is obvious that she had channeled into something outside the movie. Love good black acting so this scene did it for me. Much respect goes out to Richard T. Jones as well because I think a lot of Jill Scott's acting rides off of Jones' brilliant execution of his role!

Perhaps the weakest acting came from... surprise!... Tyler Perry. Sigh... Yes Tyler... you shook my hand but I gotta be real here. I don't think this was because he is a bad on screen actor... he was generally good. It is simply because the other stars in the movie... each and every one of them... out shined him by far. You could tell that the direction was very good though. So perhaps the Director-plus-Actor thing does not do well with him?

All in all... This is one to watch... Even that picky Queen in the Emboozi forums will love this one... Ha! Ha!
